Untitled, Oil on Canvas - 2004

These paintings originate from drawings. The drawings for these painting originate in the diagrams that illustrate J W Dunn’s ideas, in particular cyclical time, other sources; are diagrams, maps, structures and architecture. The subjects that I engage with are around space, time and the idea of the in-between.

These starting points become the motif, but I don’t have a preconceived idea of the final painting. I keep an open mind about the way to make the painting work, the ideas become imbedded in the making. The results, a tension of the formal, physical and visual qualities come from a mixture of my conscious decisions and chance as part of this process.
