Tuesday 12th April - This morning the Health walk was from the Sports centre at Clayton Green. A bit gusty and would it rain? It turned out to be a lovely sunny morning, we have been lucky with the timing of these walks! We were delighted to welcome Carole and Jacqueline back, Jacqueline had been in the Caribbean for a while.
Just after the start. We meet at the Sports Centre and enter the Park from the ASDA car park. This photo shows some of the work done earlier this year. The trees have been cut back to give more light to the ground cover. The tall stumps are pollarded to make the new growth out of reach of the deer.
As walked down the hill from Clayton Brook we spotted the Conservation Volunteers at work. The ate out of the meadow and up to the right into Dog Kennel Wood.
We walked through the wood and down to the cycle track, back towards the lake but over the bridge and up and into the wood alongside the nature reserve.
We walked round the lake and passed the workers on the other side of the lake.
Park Manager, Jim, looks happy at his work. They are cutting down the trees on the edge of the field and planting new ones. The trees on the east side of the lake were all planted at the same time so will all die at the same time. Jim is gradually replanting trees so that there will always be some mature trees between the meadow and the lake.
These Marsh Marigolds and Wood Anemones are along side the path climbing up from the lake back towards Clayton Green. There are many of them all over the Park.
Down into the gully before we climb back up to the car park followed by refreshments in the Sports Centre.
Although there were only five of us, plus Gaz, we all enjoyed the walk and socialising. Ruth is preparing some leaflets for us to hand out round our homes to encourage other people to join us.
