Health Walk from the Sports Centre

Tuesday 19th July

Photos by Carole - Jacquie & Carole write - The walk went ahead despite the wild and threatening weather.  We followed the prescribed route that Michael had prepared, with me, Jacquie, pointing out all the pictures on the way !  Carole took charge of the map.  None of us had been this way before, so the information was very useful.
We found the walk quite demanding - although we have to admit we probably could have walked faster - but it was nice to see another corner of the Valley, which made it doubly interesting.  The only thing we would say, is that if anyone had come expecting a gentle walk this could have been to much for them.  Hope we can try this route again another time - maybe the other way!
Michael, June and Jim sent their apologies for absence, June not feeling to good but hope to be along next time.  Helen back from Rome, Mary back from her hols, nice to see both back.  There were five of us all together and the rain held off.   Gary, Mary, Jacqueline, Helen and Carole left the Leisure Centre at 10.05am, turning left at the ASDA gate, eventually coming to Cam Lane where we turned left again. The trees were beautiful after the rain although unfortunately we were not blessed with the sun.   We walked on to Sheep Hill Lane, where we crossed the road and continued down the hill until we came to the kissing gate.
We proceeded along the path and came to a viewing area which had a beautiful view of the valley.  As you will see from the photographs, the walkers were in high spirits!

"Michael where are you?" - the view - enjoying the view
Following Michael's excellent instructions,

bins
"Turn right at the dog bin" we came out on to Back Lane, crossed the road and opposite the Ley Inn and easily found the next path.
By the time we came to chose which route to take, we had been out for some time, and so decided not to go on to Kem Mill but to take the path to the right, the blue route, and head back to the main path, the cycle track.  We eventually came back to Sheep Hill Lane and crossed the road to follow the familiar route back past the lake.  We took the longer way round the lake, pausing to watch a couple of fishermen and take a breath, then returned back to 'base' to enjoy refreshments.  There was a bonus to the longer walk, the room at sports centre had been vacated so we were able to have tea and biscuits in our old room.
Jacquie has saved map and pictorial notes as really we have only touched on them and think we can use them few times yet with slight variations.
