Health Walk - Thursday 7th March 2013
Please click on photos to see a larger one - sorry none today
It was forecast to rain for our walk from the Barn today but it turned out to be a dry morning with the sun trying to break through the clouds. We were nineteen today, one more than last Thursday, which was a record eighteen! Five new walkers had turned up out of the blue.
It was Helen's treat today and she led away from the Barn, David was the Back Marker. We have two levels of fitness at the moment, a few people breaking themselves into walking and recovering from health problems. Michael looked after these.
We set off through the Pinetum, entering from the car park pay machine and made our way down to the New Bridge and turned south along the cycle track. We all kept together, green route on map below, until just past the Covert Pond when the shorter walkers turned off to the river and walked northwards, blue route. The main group carried on southwards, red route, and entered the south area of the Park walking along the cycle track until they felt it was time to turn back. The original intention was to get to Lower Kem Mill but it was agreed that it would take too long. They returned along the same route and back up through the Pinetum.
The small group meandered along the river resting for the first time in the Picnic Area. A further rest was taken on the Gregsons' memorial seat on the way up from the Stone Bridge.
The small group arrived back after around and hour and the main group came home five minutes later.
Today's route:
green route - we all set off together
blue route - the less able followed this route - mostly flat except for the climb up from the stone bridge
red route - the remainder of the main group's walk
