I spent three weeks in the Boiler Shop, which were spent electric arc welding. I was placed in the boilershop training section, a small area comprising of a couple of benches along the north wall of the BX factory. I was given instructions and pieces of steel to weld together. Towards the end of the three weeks I was given an aluminum engine inlet manifold, which I broke up into lots of pioeces and welded them all back together again. It wasn't airtight but the teacher was impressed and took it round the factory showing the other welders. I don't recollect using my 'skills' again until I built a launching trailer for Suzi, the Cobra 700 that I fitted out between 1979 aqnd 1983.
