Steven is sitting on the raised lawn next to the rockery. Behind is our second fence - note the wooden posts. On his left is the low fence, low on our request, sunlight, - erected by Mr & Mrs Whewell, our neighbours on the south side. The original fences were 3' high post and wire - very open.

The front garden looking from the front door from left to right or south to north. Note the 'small' flowering cherry. This bush was given to us by Auntie May, as were many other plants in the garden at this time. The old ash tree, I still worry about what we did to that tree. Then looking up the road you can see just lawns with small borders. We had a car drive across our lawn! He was coming from the right, too fast to avoid a lorry in his way. He had his small daughter with him, before the days of compulsory seat belts, so he sacrificed our lawn to save his daughter - I know all this because he stopped on his way back and offered to pay to have the lawn rectified - we said not to worry. Two deep wheel ruts.
It was around this time that a friend got me to start wearing a seat belt, which I've always done since. Writing this in February 2012.
