Sunday 1st January - Happy New Year everyone.

Friday 6th January - Already the garden is showing sings of life.  The crocuses are beginning to open.

bullfs tits gfinchs
It's only recently that we've noticed bullfinches.  During December we neglected our feeding stations and the birds have had to leave us and find food. Fortunately it's been quite mild.  The yare just beginning to come back now that we're looking after the feeders again.

Tuesday 10th January - As we were relaxing after dinner in the 'green' room we noticed a flock of long tailed tits in the magnolia trees. Yes a flock, at least 10 or more.  Sadly I couldn't get photographs of them, it was too dull and overcast, my attempts were embarrasing.

Thursday 12th January - the crocuses outside the front door

Friday 13th January - Our first snowdrop came out near the flowering cherry tree.

Wednesday 18th January - In the high winds a couple of weeks ago we lost two fence panels from the north fence, the first time we've lost any panels on this side.  Using bill's trailer today, we took the broken panels to the tip and bought two new ones - just need to get them in place now.  In days gone by I could have done this myself but time has taken its toll on me - besides they are next to Bill greenhouse and I wouldn't want to slip and break some glass.

Thursday 19th January - Worked out how Suzie and I could get the fence panels in place and managed to do it - not bad for septuagenarians.

Some of the first snowdrops, still reluctant to open.  Euphorbia.  We though this red palm? was killed off by the frost last year but it recovered over the summer and now looks quite healthy - you can't see but there are two shoots..
