Thursday 20th June 2013 - Glasson Sailing Club Please click on the photos to see a larger one. Early, well early for me coming from Leyland, as I came down the hill from Galgate I spotted a lovely white sail hovering around just off the jetty. Had Ivan made it down to the Club for a sail before breakfast? When I arrived I found it was Mick in Stedfast and Dave in Kicks. Did you spot the strange bird? A seagull perched on the back of Dave's boat, Kicks. The small Seagull, not the smallest, had powered Kicks, towing Stedfast, from Sunderland back to the jetty. Yesterday, Mick hopeful that he could get his engine started eventually, had been towed out to Sunderland by Dave, where they spent the night intending to decide on what to do from there this morning. They awoke to no wind, not even a breathe. Dave started his engine but try as he may Mick could not get his outboard to start. Dave engaged forward gear but nothing happened. He then tried reverse and the engine stalled. No forward drive and Kicks' engine wouldn't run in reverse. So the intrepid pair attached Dave's Seagull to his boarding ladder and proceeded to tow Mick back to the Club. The sail was Kick's Genoa but there wasn't enough wind to propel them. Three tankfuls later, after a bit of skilful seamanship and a bit of luck, they managed to tie up to the jetty none the worse for wear.
