A Busy Weekend at Glasson Sailing Club when we were blessed with perfect weather.

Sunday was the final day in the Glasson Sailing Club Evening Series for the Conder Trophy. Earlier in the season the previous days had to be abandoned because of too much wind and then no wind.

It was a glorious day with a gentle sea breeze, force 2 from the west. The courses were set round the lighthouse from the clubhouse. The first race got away with Miller, fresh from his success at the Blaze National Championships at Warsash last weekend, surging into the lead. In the National Championships Miller had come 4th out of 48 boats, the first northern boat, beating the entire Blackpool & Fleetwood fleet.

Holmes, Contender, Bamber M, Musto Skiff, Haslam & Jenkins, Wayfarer, tacking into the wind close behind.

Bamber soon took the lead in his faster boat the Musto Skiff. They all struggled against the wind and strong tide but once they had reached the windward mark they all shot away on a broad reach.

Miller won on corrected time with Holmes third and Bourner 4th.

The sea breeze died away in the second race which resulted in a fluky wind and several competitors retired concerned that they would not get back the to clubhouse.

Then there was a 180 degree wind shift which made the competitors work hard to cross the finishing line fighting the now easterly wind and increasing strength of the ebbing tide.

Bamber in the Musto Skiff won the last two races taking the trophy with two wins and a second to Miller’s one win, a fourth and a second. Holmes, Contender, was third overall with three thirds.
