Not as sunny as promised but the wind although southerly was sailable, a bit strong at times. It was warmish, well for the time of year.
Many thanks to Michael OOD, hopefully recovering from health setback.
Four boats preparing to race but a fifth declining to take part - one of our best.
Peter & David had the best start followed by Ivan, Slippers and Ian & John.
Inshore there was a strong flow of water westwards but all the boats drifted out into the incoming tide, Ivan perhaps keeping more inshore.
Ivan ending his race. Ivan deciding whether to sail in the second race; you can judge the height of the tide by what you can see of the jetty.
The course was: Ss - Cp - Es - Cs - Ts, T being the orange can off the apron marker pole - T = temporary mark.
The race was only one lap and took much longer than anticipated. Some of the boats assumed you had to go outside marks A and B which pushed them into the strongly flowing tide, a strong spring tide. This had the effect of pushing them even further out into the flow and pushing them backwards also.
All other marks than the ones stipulated are not in the race and can be ignored.
Peter & Dave, perhaps because they were struggling against the tide, abandoned their race around mark E and were too late back to start the second race but sailed upstream. Ivan decide that he didn't want to race in the prevailing conditions because we had no rescue boat out and came ashore.
The course for the second race was: Ss - Bs - 18s - Ss for 2 laps
The Start. John & Ian had the better start but Slippers came home first in the end.
Everyone was pleased that they had sailed. Ivan picked up six points and Slippers two fours, Making tomorrow's final races crucial.

The real HERO of the day is John Wood. We used his new automatic start facility today for the first time. Here he is trying out his idea's for a camera recording system at the start of the first race. Believe it or not there is a camera in front of the laptop.
