Thanks too to Ivan who was Officer of the Day
No wind, none of the promised sunshine but it was a nice afternoon. Four boats turned up to race but as the winds were very light to nothing David decided not to launch.
Full of optimism, Slippers, Chorley John and Michael rigged and decided to have a go.
Ivan set the course Ss - Cs - As - Bs - Ss and there was enough wind to sail. Ivan planned three laps.
Jockeying for position waiting for the start - Michael and Slippers having a good start.
Meanwhile we had a late starter, Leonid Leonov, seen here impeding John, however he did not stick to the course so Ivan disqualified him and he was last seen storming off to sea.
Of course by now the wind had dropped to almost nothing and John was having difficulties catching up.
It took ages for Michael & Slippers to round the windward mark. We zoomed up the course but approaching C the tide was sweeping across the river and the wind disappeared. We more or less had to wait until the tide eased to get round C. Now the wind had deserted us and we struggled to make against the tide which had by now turned so Ivan shortened the course and we crept back to the line in shallow water, almost on the shore. John unable to reach C retired.
Then the wind got up again, enough for another race, two laps this time, similar course but with B as the windward mark - Ss - Bs - As - Bs - Ss
Here we are struggling tight inshore out of the tide. Again the wind let us down and we only managed one lap, John discretely retiring, his boat is too heavy when there is no wind.
