Summer Series 12 |
Sunday 8th September 2013 - Glasson Sailing Club Please click on the photos to see a larger one. Sorry no still photographs today Thanks to Ivan Haslam and Anne Booth for being the OOD. Thanks to Steve Speakman for manning the Patrol Boat, the video, which will eventually appear here, and Michael Swarbrick for the report Steve's video with footage from his new camera in the Patrol Boat Again the weather was interesting and the wind mostly southerly Force 2 - 3 gusting 4 occasionally. The course, set by Ivan, which was to do for both races, Kp - Gp - 18s - Cp - Sp : 3 and 2 laps. K was Ian Atkinson's orange mooring buoy). S is a new white buoy donated, painted and fitted by Duncan The first race got away well. It was tricky round the first mark with the tide flooding strongly and a boat on the moorings dancing about wildly nearby. All was going well but on the first lap Robin, Owen and Michael all went the wrong way round C, leaving it to starboard instead of port. Owen & Robin were informed some time later. Robin immediately retired but Owen went back and rounded the buoy correctly. Michael wasn't informed but he remembered the correct course as he followed Owen towards the end of the second lap. Michael actually did 2 laps but it only counted as 1 as, technically, he only sailed the correct course on his last lap.Owen won the first race with Chris second, Duncan third and Anthony & Sally 4th. It was Anthony & Sally's first race at Glasson, which they both enjoyed very much as did we all. Ivan decided that the second race would be over the same course but we would only do 2 and 1 laps. Robin won the second race by 12 seconds on corrected average lap time over Michael. Owen was third anther 9 seconds adrift. Summer Series Table - Owen's performance today has thrust him into the lead in the series pushing Ivan into second place five points behind with Chris third. Well done to the racers, who, despite the tricky conditions, all enjoyed themselves. |
