CORRECTED TIME CALCULATION
Corrected Time = Elapsed Time x 1000 (see below for slow handicap boats)
PY Handicap
That's the official calculation formula!
Elapsed Time = Actual Time
PY Handicap = Club Number from black ring binder i.e. Race Control Manual
Example:
A Fireball takes 53' 26" (53 minutes 26 seconds) to complete the race
Elapsed Time = Actual Time = 53' 26"
First convert to seconds
PY Handicap = Club Number = 982
Corrected Time = (3206 / 982) x 1000 = 3264.766 = 3265 seconds
SLOW HANDICAP BOATS (GP14 and numerically higher)
Usually slow handicap boats do one lap less than the other boats so an allowance has to be made for this when working out the corrected time.
Their Elapsed Time is Their Actual Time divided by The Number of Laps they have completed, multiplied by the Number of Laps the other boats have done.
Example:
In the above race the Fireball completed 3 laps but a GP14 in the same race only did 2 laps.
The GP14's Actual Time was 45' 46" seconds = (45 x 60) + 46 = 2746 seconds
It's Elapsed Time = (2746 / 2) x 3 = 4119 seconds
Corrected Time = (4119 / 1143) x 1000 = 3603.675 = 3604 seconds
