A few notes from the Dinghy Meeting, held on the morning of Sunday 6th April
2003.
Giles & Richard Ruel, Martin & SamanthaTopping, James Eddington,
Michael & Susan Swarbrick, Colin Jex, Peter Milston, Richard Hargreaves
and Giles Stothert attended. Apologies were received from Anne Rushton,
Chris Rushton and someone else. David Nicholls turned up after the meeting
had ended !
Steve Jones was elected Fleet Captain of the Fast Handicap boats and Giles
Stothert was elected Fleet Captain of the Slow Handicap boats.
Martin Topping agreed to continue as Bosun of the Patrol Boat and Ivan
Haslam as the Fuel Bosun.
Colin Jex agreed to keep the records of the racing results and prepare
the PY returns.
No one could be persuaded to organise and prepare the Duty Roster.
Peter Milston agreed to take on the responsibility of the Racing Marks
and Richard Ruel agreed to help him. The Committee are to be asked to
provide a sum of money to purchase some more suitable, possibly larger,
racing marks. It was agreed to vary the shape and possibly colours of
the marks to facilitate recognition under racing conditions. New marks
are to be established at the up-stream end of the King Orry trot, across
from the docks near the outer trot on the north shore, towards Crook Perch
and beyond No. 14 navigation mark. Race mark 'L' is to be moved up-stream
slightly to always place it up-stream of the start line transit. It was
decided to abandon the inner limit start procedure. The start line would
in future generally be between 'L' and No. 18 navigation mark.
Slow Handicap boats were to be the Laser and slower. Members of Slow Handicap
boats could elect to be deemed Fast Handicap.
The PY etc. numbers of Slow Handicap boats from the GP and slower were
to have a Glasson Club Number to allow for the strong tides etc. Michael
Swarbrick to search records for old formula designed by Colin Jex in the
eighties.
It was agreed that there would only be one start for all boats, the start
to be 6 minute 30 second wake up hooter, 6 minute hooter, 3 minute hooter
and start hooter, with lights. The 6 minute 30 second hooter for the second
race could be blown when racers were around the OOD box waiting to start
the second race. Generally Slow Handicap boats would do one lap less.
Separate starts and races for slow handicap boats would be organised when
there was a demand for them and when we had many competent OODs.
The high points system of scoring would be used in future.
An open meeting was proposed in September for trapeze boats. Steve Jones
to organise.
Training wasn't discussed.
