GLASSON SAILING CLUB
OUR HOLIDAY 2011

On the 17th August 2011 we set off for our week’s holiday to Glasson Sailing Club, we were giddy with excitement and anticipation of our week away.  We love this time because Glasson is the only place where you feel completely free and at ease.  My mum always lets me, Ethan and Jordan sleep in our own tent which in itself is a real laugh.  At Glasson we can be ourselves, you don’t need to be too ‘cool’ because people just like and accept you for who you are, we like that.

On the journey I travelled with mum, and Ethan and Jordan travelled with their mum Jo, because there was very little room in the cars even though Jo’s car is a monster car.  The cars were packed to capacity with all manner of goodies.  Mum and Jo cook and prepare most of our week’s food and we know there are some real treats in store as they usually spoil us and don’t stick to the ‘5-a-day’ rule.  As we approach down the winding lanes, passed the chicken farm where we sometimes stop for eggs, you get a real surge of excitement and today the sun was shining, I couldn’t wait to see Grandma and Grandad who were already there, oh I hope they remembered the monopoly game.

Our first sail and we decided to go together in my mirror until we found our nerve.  We took turns sailing and within a very short time it felt like we’d never been away.  Grandad was close-by in the topper which always gives us confidence though he only gives advice on request as he much prefers that we try by ourselves, but he is always encouraging of our efforts.

The Three Amigo’s – we soon found our sea-legs and that’s when the fun really began.

Aw, look at my mates sailing off into the sunset.

Quiet contemplation.

Glasson is a hive of activity but there is always somewhere you can go to quietly contemplate, take stock and appreciate life’s simple luxuries.

How lucky are we?

Every year Grandma and Grandad take us for a meal to the Mill and this year it was even better than I’d remembered it, the food was delicious and the walk to the Mill was spritely to say the least as we didn’t want to be late.  It was very dark and pouring with rain when we left the restaurant, so we decided to walk the road way as we felt this would be by far the safest route.  We also walked along the sea wall.  It was pitch black which we found exciting but spooky.

On the Saturday the Viking Sail took place in which lots of people took part, it’s always a good atmosphere, some folk dress-up and even dress their boats, but some just go along for the experience.  The weather was dull but dry when they set sail but the heavens opened and they all came back drenched to the skin but happily told tales of their adventures.

Just chilling at the café.  Whilst waiting for our drinks and cake to arrive Jordan decided to be creative with the stones!  It was a glorious day, full of sunshine and laughter.

Mum and Jo worrying what we’re up to!

We love watching the ships set sail.

k

We saw 10 beautiful ducklings whilst we were crabbing, they were so funny, up to all manner of antics, we would check on them daily.

l

This is where we love to crab if the weather’s too choppy for sailing.  I think we managed to squeeze crabbing in most days, the local shop sells everything you would need for a wonderful ‘crabbing’ time – they also sell lovely ice-cream yum.

m

There is so much entertainment and mum likes the fact that I’m not playing Xbox!  We’re really good at pool now.

n

Our tents – ‘home sweet home’ for the week, we love it though I’m not too sure whether mum and Jo feel the same.  Mum’s tent nearly blew away one night and it happened to be the night Dad came to stay – Oops!  Jo’s tent was awash with water every morning and she needed to dry it out on a daily basis.  She should have got in with mum.

o

What a way to start each day, sat on the bench looking out to sea.  Three happy boys awaiting breakfast and discussing how big we would make our ramp today.  We love BMXing.

And in contrast, the sun setting over our tent on our final night.

Another year sadly over but a wonderful holiday full of lovely memories of people dear and new friends we met that enriched and regaled us with tales of the sea, so much fun, we all love Glasson and the people who help to make our holiday a success, year after year, we all leave tired but very happy – see you soon our little piece of heaven.

Thank you Grandma and Grandad, you’re the best.
