Liverpool - 22nd September 2009
Damian came up from London for a few days so we decided to have a day out in Liverpool with him.
Michael wanted to visit the Walker Art Gallery so everyone agreed that we would go there first. Having worked out where it was, using a street map we found the nearest car park and walked to the gallery.
It was quite a promising day, dry with sunshine from time to time.
Walking from the car park we were impressed by the magnificent buildings we walked by.

There was also the Empire theatre that we've heard a lot about from the various artists on TV.

Sue had brought ingredients to make sandwiches but by the time we'd walked round all the gallery rooms it was time for lunch so we had a meal at the gallery.
We returned to the car and drove round to the Albert Dock, it was too expensive to leave the car in the Queen's Square car park.
We found a spot near to the Albert Dock warehouses. Michael wanted to take a trip in one of the yellow boat or the DWKs but he was outvoted so we set off walking to the riverside via the dock.

I got my camera out now!
Damian & Sue strolling along the quayside in the dock complex. It always strikes me as being gloomy without any atmosphere or charisma.
Strange lens effects - museum verticals? The boat moored alongside the Maritime Museum is the tug Brocklebank, which usually visits Glasson Dock at Spring Bank Holiday. You can see all the contstruction work in the top left hand of the picture.
We couldn't walk westwards from the Canning dock because of all the construction work around the new Museum of Liverpool, not scheduled to be open until October 2010!

Walking round the roads towards the ferry terminal
Sue noticed this reflection on the new building of the the former offices of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board, frontal view below.
We thought about going for a sail accross the Mersey but decided against it.
This was one of the boats, Snowdrop? working at the time.
After a cup of tea and a cake at the Ferry terminal, feeling very tired, we decide to call at Crosby, where the statues are, and Sue could make the sandwiches for tea.
We watched two tractors and fishermen set out across the sands with the ebbing tide, now well out, to start, we think, trawling for fish along the edge of the shore.
The sun was hiding at this time.
Fed and rested we set off to take Damian back to Wigan.
