We arrived in time for tea on Sunday 28th August. Daughter Helen and partner Colin had left leaving a bedroom free for us to join Daphne and Frank and their remaining children and all their grandchildren.
Our first meal together. The farmhouse
August Bank Holiday Monday, 19th August, and we had a surprise visit from some of he landlords friends in their American automobiles
There were four of them, pictured here. We were staying in an old farmhouse and in the adjacent farm buildings were many many old cars, just two photos shown here. The owner wasn't a farmer but a publican and his hobby was collecting old cars, more likely in the hope that they would provide an annuity for his retirement.
Before the visitors left they allowed all the children to sit in one of the cars.
In the afternoon Judith took us to Raglan Castle where a special display was taking place. Midle photo: Charlotte, Nancy, Gracie, Joe, Alice & Jaja. Then we had ice cream.
In the evening we visited some caves, allegedly full of folk lore, across the field from the farm, you can just see the roof of the farm taken from the caves area.
Tuesday 30th August Judith had arranged a canoe trip down the Wye!
Michael, Jaja, Alice and Sue as we were setting off on our trip down river. Judith hired the canoes and we were transported up stream, about seven mile,s and launched by one of the workers at the canoe hire firm. It was a bit stressful for Sue as she was in the bow and didn't have any faith in Michael's steering!
First rest for sandwiches, just after a particularly shallow section, the river was lower than usual because of the dry summer, well it must have been dry in Wales.
Our second stop for rest and relaxation. And fishing with our sandwich bags!
Frank, Daphne and Sue. The photo on the right is the view from the bank where the other four photos were taken
Wednesday 1st September
The last day for us. We went down to the river near the farm and the children spent some time fishing. Photos, left to right, Judith - Jaja and Sue - Jaja with his fish - Gracie and Martha
It was very sad leaving but Jaja had school the next day. |
