2011 Carlsberg Trophy
Sunday 31st July
Almost Ideal conditions for the first dinghy race of the 2001 season - The Carlsberg Trophy.
Five boats and four members took part. Robin, OK; Ivan, Laser; Stephen, Mirror; Martin & Martin, GP14 and Owen, GP14. Martin & Sam, RS400 and Andy & Helen, GP14, sent their apologies but were tied to previous arrangements.
We had three races over the same course: Ts - Cs - Gs - Ap - 18s - Ts; although the tide made each race different.
Robin was the overeall winner with Ivan second and Stephen third - Robin winning the first two races but Ivan won the third with Stephen second, pushing Robin into third place. Each Crew's best two races counted towards the trophy.
Each race was closely contested by Ivan and Robin, both boats faster than the other three so they did two laps to the others one. As the races progressed the other three boats also came closer together. In the first race Owen's rudder securing lanyard broke and that's why he didn't start the second race but he repaired it in time for the third.
Everyone enjoyed the event and in the last race the first three boats on corrected time were within 5 seconds of each other, the other two, a little behind were also close together.
Austin was on stand by with the Patrol Boat should it have been needed.
The Commodore presented the Trophy to Robin in the Clubhouse after the boats were put away.
