BIAW 2010 SUPERNORMAL

www.supernormalfestival.co.uk

8th - 25th August 2010

Over the past 16 years BIAW has brought together over 300 artists from over 60 countries to live and work alongside each other in the idyllic rural surroundings of Braziers Park.

2010 will see the 15th annual gathering of artists at Braziers Park and the 60th anniversary of the founding of the community, which runs Braziers Park, the site for the workshop. We are marking the occasion with a uniquely artist-led project under the title Supernormal. With the emphasis firmly upon experiment and with a sincere belief in the possibility of the avant-garde to resist the current obsessions of commodity and consumption, Supernormal will be an event open to the public over the final weekend of 21st/22nd August, and will be part festival, village fete, living gallery and critical forum.

The 2010 Workshop is for artists who are interested in human connections and interactions. Participants will be asked to work collectively with the organisers in focusing on ideas of inclusion and participation. We welcome applications from artists open to working in a sustainable and non-didactic way to explore practice that celebrates or critiques collective action and to consider the politics of fun in the context of the social, economic, ecological and cultural challenges we currently face.

It will be up to the participating artists to decide how they will contribute to the

Supernormal event which will also feature invited artists, writers, musicians, performers as part of a programme of debate, international film, performance, art, music and entertainment.

We expect a high level of commitment from artists joining the workshop and you are asked to think carefully about your own expectations and willingness to work collaboratively before applying
