Saturday
As I arrived at the Club, having driven through a flood, there was evidence of heavy rain, the ground was saturated. It was dull to start with but it turned into a lovely afternoon and five boats started the first race.
The wind was mostly westerly force 2/3 gusting 3/4
We had the same course for all three races: Ss - Cs - BPs - Ap - 18s - Ss ; three laps for the faster boats.
We had an exciting start to the first race, the two Martins forced Martin and Samantha over the line and they had to return!
Anthony and Kath off to a late start after fixing their rudder. The race soon settled down and Martin and Samantha doing three laps finished 1st on handicap. The other boats only did two laps and unfortunately Anthony and Kath's temporary rudder mounting broke so they had to retire. This was Owen's first race on his Laser Radial, sadly I haven't got any photos of him.
Thirty minutes later the Cruiser Regatta started with their race round the lighthouse - sixteen boats! Here are the first nine away.
Even more exciting start to the second race! Four boats challenged for the line and shouts of Water! and Starboard! plus unreportable shouts! were heard.
All sorted out and on the way to the first mark
Martin and Samantha, RS400, completeing their first lap
Martin and Martin, GP14, leading Anthony and Kath, YW Dayboat, at the end of the first lap.
Giles, Lytham Post Boat, and Martin and Samantha
Anthony and Kath had sorted their boat out and eventually overtook the Martins ccoming second, Martin and Samantha winning again.
For the third race Anthony and Owen opted not to race. This was an uneventful race, Martin and Samantha winning again.
Sunday
A big disappointment. There was only a breath of wind and it started to rain as we rigged the dinghies.
Some of the dinghies crossed the start line and sailed away to the first mark. The GPs struggled and eventually crossed the line. The two Martins made progress and almost reached No. 18 but Michael was way behind, almost totally out of control.
Martin and Samantha made two laps as did Owen, Young Michael and Anthony managed one. Old Michael started to paddle back and was impressed by his paddling when he realised that the boat was sailing? It charged back to the slipway? A few people said has he got an engine? It is amazing, the only time Michael sails with any speed is when he's approaching the slipway!
Martin & Samantha received the Jubilee Trophy presented buy the Commodore, Jim Cruise after the racing. Several cruisers tried to sail but they gave up around No. 9
The winner of the Cruiser Jubilee Trophy was Jack and Dad John Broadhead in Sparkle.
The Dayboat Trophy was won ny Jeff in Secret Water
