2012 Frostbite 8

Sunday 4th November 2012 - Glasson Sailing Club

A lovely sunny day with a moderate south easterly breeze.  Four boats turned out.

Many thanks to OOD Samantha Topping, crewing for Dad, she timed both races, Martin selected the course.

The course for both races was: MBp - 18p - Bs - Gs - Ap - Sp, where MB is a mooring buoy, Ian's.  Three laps for the faster boats and two for the others.

The first race was in a moderate breeze and was quite challenging both Michael, GP14, and Big John, Enterprise, struggling with the gusting wind, the Enterprise is quite tippy compared to the GP, - the others, Martin & Sammy, RS400, and John & Dave, Bosun struggled a little but they had two in each boat.  The wind over tide on the second and third legs producing 'waves'.

Big John & Michael reefed their mainsails for the second race but on the second lap the wind died away causing them both to shake the reefs out.

Three lovely photos taken by Big John.  If you look at the results you'll see that he finished a whole 35 minutes before we, Michael and Dave & John, got ashore!  Here we are desperately trying to get round the last mark with the wind dying away and the tide building.  Michael just managed to finish but Dave & John eventually gave up.

Despite there being only four boats we all enjoyed the sailing.

Results

Frostbite Series Standings - By virtue of his % points for doing the OOD duty Michael is now in the lead!  this will be short lived as soon as the others take to the water in the remaining twenty or so races - the best ten races to count.

Course - it's not a simple as it looks.  We had to tack to MB then we didn't go straight to 18, broad reaches to the north then over to B.  We could more or less sail straight to G and S.

There was a spectacular sunset!

The next Race Day Saturday 17th November, the first race starting prompt at 1200 hours.
