The 3rd North West Icicle Sunday

Sunday 29th January 2012 - Glasson Sailing Club

Five of us turned up for the racing.

Ivan decided it was too cold for him so he volunteered to do the OOD, which was great for me because it meant I could race.

We had two races.  Course: Ss – Bs – Gs – Ap – 18s – Ss.  Two laps for each race but in the second race we all struggled to get round A on the first lap so Ivan shortened the course to one lap.  The wind had died away a little and the tide was getting too strong.

‘twas a good day for me because I managed to win both races!

In the first race we were more or less all together round B but I chose a better track and we were still all together at G but them I got in irons rounding G and got left behind however the handicapping helped me because, despite finishing last I was the winner on handicap.  Ian’s sails are very old and limp, Martin’s new sails are keeping him in front of Ian.

In the second race I had a good start and we were all together again at B but I was trailing as we rounded G.  On the next leg to A, I again benefitted from a better track and arrived at the buoy ahead.  We were all together at B but our lack of knowledge of the rules coupled with the lighter wind and stronger tide combined to make us all struggle to get round A.  This was when Ivan decided to shorten the race to one lap only.

I’m winning at the moment with 2 ¼ points, Ivan’s next with 4 1/8.  Ivan gets % points for officiating and I’ve given the Martins a DNS points for the previous races so they qualify.  There’s a long was to go yet, four more Sundays t ocome.

We all really enjoyed ourselves and were surprised that it wasn’t as cold as the previous race day.
