Saturday wasn't a bad day, about 2 degrees Celcius, a little sunshine but it was much too windy for the enthusiastic Slippers, John, Ian & Michael, who decide not to launch. In hindsight it was the right decision as the wind chill factor would probably have made it much too cold too.
Sunday even colder and NO WIND. Six boats wanting to launch but was it worth it to drift around?
Jack was not deterred, he wanted to try out his new boat, RS600, single hander with a trapeze. What little wind there was was SSE, which created a huge wind shaddow radiating from the slipway but once Jack got through it there was enough wind to ghost long.
Should we launch or should some of us go off on the bikes - the Club now has a cycling section? Slippers was already rigged - he wanted to try his new sail, Christmas present. Martin W had rigged his Topper, Martin L was encouraging him to sail and promised to launch the Patrol Boat if he got into difficulties but Martin W was a bit unsure. Big John had rigged. Time was marching on so Michael got his Topper ready, his decision helped the others to launch, Martin L 'persuaded' Martin W to go for it - so they did. Michael was the last to launch, just after High Water.
We soon realised that we were enjoying ourselves and Jack said lets have a race. We worked out a course - sailing in and out of the North Shore mooring buoys. These four are Martin's photographs - the weatehr is closing in now, it's gloomy and the boats are a long way away.
We only had time for one race 2 & 3 laps but we've got points on the board!
Martin W's first time out in his Topper!
Wind's dropped and the tide is ebbing at its strongest.
Thanks to Peter Johnson for the use of his inflatable and outboard.
