2013 North West Icicle 5 Saturday 2nd February 2013 - Glasson Sailing Club Please click on the photos to see a larger one. Sorry no photos today A lovely day with plenty of sunshine. The wind was WNW, force 2-3 gusting 3-4. Temperature round about 5 degrees C. After prolonged umming and ahing we decided to go for it. The wind was a little strong and making it feel colder than it was. Thanks to Ivan who volunteered to be OOD - course setter and timekeeper. Race 1 (2 in the Series) Course: Ss - Bs - !8p - Ss, 3 laps Dave had a good start followed by Michael. On the second lap Michael slid into the water! Dave stood by while he got back on to the boat. Thanks Dave for waiting and sailing around me until I got back on. Race 2 (3 in the Series) Course: Ss - Gp - Bp - 18s - Ss; 2 laps We all had a good start. The wind had dropped slightly which seem to favour Michael in the end. We all did different tracks on the first leg of each lap which resulted in several leadership changes! As the wind fell away Michael's old baggy sail came into its own. We were all glad we'd decided to sail, even Ivan who perhaps wished he'd sailed but he said he enjoyed doing the timekeeping and setting the courses. The sun kept the OOD Box warm and sheltered from the cold wind. Dave (Slippers) is now leadingthe series, can he keep it up and take the Icicle trophy as well as the Frostbite? We would love to have a Patrol Boat crew and photographer. |
