A lovely Indian summer morning
We had 13 walkers today - Barbara N, Carol, Elizabeth M, Frankie, Irene S, Lawrence, Linda E, Linda P, Michael, Pat, Peter, Sandy and Sue.
Michael was leading again and he set off thinking of how to create a different walk.

We set off round the back of the Barn and along the sunny side of the Hall.

Thinking hard he led us round to the path to the Stone Bridge but took us into the Pinetum alongside the new visitor centre workings and twisting and turning we found ourselves walking back up the last bit of Cardiac Hill

He took us along the top path to the viewing area. We are all looking at the tree.

A few days earlier Peter had spotted this plaque which is in memory of Bernadette, our 'furious walker' who died from cancer earlier this year. That is what we are looking at. Barbara, Frankie, Irene and Lawrence had never met Bernadette, a Leader, who up to April had been a regular walker. Pat's first walk was Bernadette's last.
From there we walked down to the Wooden Bridge where Irene, Peter and Sue elected to do a short walk - green route - while the rest of us turned right and eventually walked along the river to the Covert Pond. From there we walked back along the the Cycle Track and up into Gravel Hole Wood.

Walking through Dog Kennel Wood
We walked round the Lake, round the Picnic Area, across the Stone Bridge and back round the sunny side of the Hall

Relaxing after the walk with our refreshments.
Irene, Sue and Peter had walked along the Cycle Track, up on to the Lake side and then followed the same route as the rest except they went direct to the Barn at the end.
Michael's efforts were rewarded when several walkers said they had really enjoyed the walk.
