Health Walk - Thursday 3rd March 2016
Photos by Michael - Please click on photos to see a larger one
Today we only had eleven walkers - Ann, Carmel, Helen G, James, Linda E, Mary, Michael, Paul, Peter, Sandy and Sue.
(The averages so far this year are Tuesdays 16 and Thursdays 15.44, considerable more than this time last year.)
It was a miserable drizzly morning however the new building was a hive of activity, boards going on the roof

David was away today so Michael was leading. We set off down Snake Hill towards the Stone Bridge

Two apparently enthusiastic
Nordic walkers leading us up Bikers Hill to Cock Cabin Pond. Round the pond and through the wood to enter Walkers Wood.
We crossed the Stone Bridge and, paddling through mud and water along the bottom of the Dam we climbed up the steps to the Lake where we were surprised to see Cormorants taking off, at least eight of them, and circling the Lake. There were Moorhens, Coots, Canada Geese, Mallards but we didn't see the Grebes. There must have been Black Headed Gulls but I don't remember seeing them.
We carried on round the Lake and up into the Field. We dropped down again to the entrance to Dog Kennel Wood. We walked up through the wood, through Gravel Hole Wood, down to the Cycle Track where we were able to see the Butterburr that David B had highlighted on Facebook yesterday. We crossed the Wooden Bridge and climbed up to the Pinetum where we spotted Peter leading the short walk, they had just been to the look for birds on the feeders on the viewing area.
Peter's group followed the main group but took a short cut down the valley leaving out the Lake and woods - green route and arrows
Sandy's photos:
The Cycle track near the Wooden Bridge and Peter and Sue wondering what Sandy was photographing from the Wooden Bridge.
In Sandy's words " . . . the bird of the day shot! . . . " A long Tailed Tit on the feeder in the Pinetum Viewing Area.
Today's walks - main group red route and arrows
