It was Jane and Pauline's first walk with us. Overcast and very warm - muggy. James leading, Michael Back Marking, Peter Leading the short walk. James was determined that we make it into the South Side of the Park for the first time from the Barn. At Brian's suggestion Peter set off towards the Cinder Path on the short walk. They entered Cock Cabin Wood. At Cock Cabin Pond John T decided he would rather back track and return to the Barn rather than go on so Sue led him back. The others carried on round the Pond and emerged from the wood to drop down to the bottom of Snake Hill. They walked up Snake Hill and back to the Barn. They got the drinks out and waited for the rest of us. James lead us along the Cycle Track to Sheep Hill Lane. We crossed the road and entered the south area of the Park. We carried along the Cycle Track, climbed up the hill and dropped down again taking the left fork to cross the river and climb yet another hill. At the next junction we turned left and walked along the path climbing up to Back Lane. We were still all together but five elected to take the shortest way back to the Barn. James carried on leading his flock along Wood End Road and across Sheep Hill Lane into Cam Lane. They Passed the Ponderosa and entered the field at Hawks Clough. They walked directly down to the Stone Bridge, crossed and walked up Snake Hill back to the Barn. It took them around eighty minutes and everyone thorough enjoyed the new walk. Only a few grabbed photos today, sorry not very exciting
The map is rather small because of the large area we covered. If you click on the large on it comes up larger. Red - main walk Michael Swarbrick |
