A performance installation inspired by genetic science

FLU-x is based on a scenographical concept by the Swiss born visual artist and scenographer Johanna Altherr, which resulted in the collaboration with the well established, London-based choreographer Claire Russ and three outstanding dance artists. The performing team includes the award-winning, ex-Royal Ballet dancer and choreographer Matthew Hawkins, the Turkesistan born dancer Yalckun Abdurehim taught by Merce Cunningham and dancer in R. Nurejev’s "Romeo & Juliet", and Swiss born dance-acrobat and choreographer Andrea Herdeg.

FLU-x was premiered at the 291 Gallery, London, on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th September 2001.

Dancers created an environment, reminiscent of physiological structure, through their movement and interaction with elasticated materials. Enhanced through light, sound and video projections, the audience experienced itself as part of this organism and its thrilling transformation of space.
