Photos by Michael - Please click on photos to see a larger one Today we had thirty-two walkers and dry weather. Jacqueline and Chris came from Skipton, the 'Famous Five' were reunited. Carole, Helen, Jacqueline, Mary & Michael took part in the first Cuerden walk in 2010 Michael was leading the main walk, Carmel was back marker. Suzi was leading the short walk option (Elite) - twelve today. Michael introduced the walk and set off via the little path through the car park and down Snake Hill. The Elite walkers stuck to the road and left the Car Park past the Pay Station to go down the path into the Pinetum and down Cardiac Hill, over the Wooden Bridge, turning right, walked up into the woods and through to the Lake, opposite to the way we would walk later. Because of all the previous the rain Michael said he was going to do a walk where he thought there would be no puddles and mud however when walking alongside the Picnic Area towards the slope up to the Field he noticed the path along the bottom of Dam was dry. Plans abandoned! He led the walkers along the bottom of the Dam and up the longer of the two sets of steps to Lake. He walked round the Lake,
Instead of walking up to the Ponderosa he carried on down the hill where the expected mud and water was quite passable. Round the top, down Green Wood alongside Clayton Green ASDA which is now almost hidden Coming out on to Cam Lane we turned right and walked passed the Ponderosa instead of going down Sheep Hill. The Ponderosa's gates were closed - photo out of focus. At this point Michael said to Carmel "Are you feeling mischievous"! which is a daft question because Carmel is always mischievous. So we swapped positions, Carmel taking over the lead. I wondered if anyone would notice but it turned out Carmel had told them that Michael was at the back tired so she'd taken over the lead - the laugh is on me! We followed Carmel to Hawks Clough, along the Field and down to the Kissing Gate and up into Dog Kennel Wood. We walked through the wood into Gravel Hole Wood and down the edge of Black Banks Wood turning right to find the Wooden Bridge They had walked in the opposite direction through the woods and down the slope to the shorter of the two sets of steps up to the Lake, along the Dam, down the longer steps to the Picnic Area, over the Stone Bridge and up Snake Hill, down by the side of the new building into the Pinetum then up the remainder of Cardiac Hill back to the Barn.
The Elite group, after leaving Dog Kennel Wood, walked down the slope to the short steps, climbing and walked along the Dam to the long steps and walked along the bottom of the Dam to the Stone Bridge. They crossed the Bridge and walked up Snake Hill extending their walk by passing the new building and going down the path into the Pinetum and returning up the next path to the car park then walking up the side of the Barn past the south side of the Hall round the front of the Hall and back to the Barn.
