Today we only had twenty-two walkers and sunshine.
For the first time since we introduced the short option walk we had more short option walkers than the main group.

John W introduced the main walk and set off via the little path to the sunny side of the Hall.

Peter led the short option group into the Pinetum and down to the Wooden Bridge

As we came to the Hall Irene was sitting in the sun. At the beginning of 2011 Irene came on one of the walks led by Trustee Maureen. I helped her up the steeper hills but she felt she was restricting us because her motorised chair was too slow. Later she tried to get the speed adjusted to go faster but they wouldn't allow it to be done for her so she never came again. Now they've taken away her motorised chair. Irene has lived in the Hall for over twenty-five years.
We carried on down Snake Hill and turned up bikers Hill entering Walkers Wood. Leaving Walkers Wood we entered Cock Cabin Wood

Walking round the pond we watched this Carp and the shoal of Rudd
We left Cock Cabin Wood and walked along the Cycle Track over the M6 coming out on to the A49. We walked under the M65 and entered the northern area of the Park

Almost undetectable in the photo is a young Water Hen on the Pond. We carried on round the Pond and

walked up the Hill, the Himalayan Balsam has really got a hold almost everywhere in the Park.
We left the Northern area and walked back under the M65 and over the M6 where John asked us if we wanted to risk the Cinder Path, there was water everywhere after the night's heavy rain, and the more vociferous of us encouraged him to carry on back down the Cycle Track which we did.
Going down Bikers Hill and approaching the Stone Bridge John again consulted us and he was prevailed upon to cross the bridge and walk along the river

eventually getting back to the Barn
via the Pinetum
The Elite group crossed the Wooden Bridge and climbed up into Gravel Hole Wood passing through Dog Kennel Wood to the Lake, walked along the Dam to the long steps descending and walked along the bottom of the Dam to the Stone Bridge.
They crossed the bridge and walked up Snake Hill back to the Barn.
