Photos by Michael S - Please click on photos to see a larger one Today we had forty-three twalkers who were rewarded with a lovely walk in damp conditions turning to very light misty drizzle at the end. Lawrence led the main walk with Michael S back marking. Susan S led the Elite group with Colin C back marking. Lawrence introduced himself and outlined his plans. He led us off into the Pinetum and up past the Viewing Area and down Cardiac Hill, over the Wooden Bridge into Gravel Hole Wood, through Dog Kennel Wood leaving to go through the Kissing Gate up into the Field and down again via the other Kissing Gate to the Lake. He took us round the Lake, down the Long Steps, round the Picnic Area, over the Stone Bridge, up into Walkers Wood, then through Cock Cabin Wood
Then back to the Barn where we were greeted by the Elite walkers , twelve today The Elite walkers walked straight down Snake Hill, crossed the Stone Bridge and walked along the river to follow the main group into Gravel Hole Wood. As they left Dog Kennel Wood they walked down the slope, avoiding the Lake, over the Stone Bridge and back up Snake Hill to the Barn.
Keith's eloquence on Facebook: "After a couple of 'dodgy' knees have been keeping me away from the walks, it was wonderful to be back in the park again in the delightful company of so many warm-hearted kindred spirits. Given the weather conditions of late, things could've been worse than they were today, both in the atmosphere and underfoot, but Lawrence and Michael safely guided the impressive turnout on a thoroughly enjoyable route through a damp but extremely atmospheric park. I was personally thrilled to visit the lake, because it was the proverbial millpond today, offering mirror-like reflections, as the odd flotilla of ducks elegantly glided by. I couldn't believe how popular the park was today, with joggers making room for their Christmas puds, the usual collection of dog walkers, and a surprising number of amazing young mums pushing occupied prams up hill and down dale over very challenging terrain, plus babes in arms, and taking Fido for a stroll! It was multi-tasking gone mad - I was in awe! The highlight as always was getting back to The Barn afterwards for a much needed brew (including mince pies today), where everyone shared their Christmas plans, exchanged cards, and wished each other well for the coming festivities. Assuming I survive the fumes from liberal applications of Deep Heat over the next two days, I can't wait for Thursday's walk, and I'm particularly excited about the Boxing Day get together. All being well, I'll be there! Many thanks to everyone for your 'guidance' and wonderful company once again.
